16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Launched Worldwide

A seminar was organized in Sargodha to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The event was attended by Madam Sana, In-Charge of Dar-ul-Aman Sargodha; Sana Amina; students from the University of Sargodha; and Madam Riffat Rani, General Secretary of Star Welfare Organization, Punjab In-Charge of Hawa Shelter Home, and a member of the Women Protection Authority. The participants shared their views on women's rights and the prevention of gender-based violence.

Madam Riffat Rani works for the rights of women. She explained that the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign held every year in Pakistan and around the world. The campaign is led annually by UN Women. This year's theme focuses on investing to prevent violence against women and girls.

She further stated that women in Pakistan face various forms of violence, including:

• Domestic violence

• Rape

• Honour killings

• Child and early marriage

• Denial of inheritance rights

These forms of violence remain widespread. Although laws exist in Pakistan to address violence against women, and civil society and government institutions are actively working to prevent it, the severity of violence and the number of reported cases remain alarming.

Madam Sana, In-Charge of Dar-ul-Aman Sargodha, thanked all the guests and participants for attending the seminar.

At the conclusion of the event, Star Welfare Organization distributed clothing among all the women as part of its welfare and support activities.

میڈم رفعت رانی خواتین کے حقوق کے لیے کام کرتی ہیں انہوں نے بتایا کہ پاکستان سمیت دنیا بھر میں صنفی بنیاد پر تشدد کے خلاف 16 دن کی سرگرمیوں کا آغازہوتا ہے یہ ایک عالمی مہم ہے جس کی قیادت ہر سال اقوام متحدہ کی خواتین کرتی ہیں اس سال کی تھیم خواتین اور لڑکیوں کے خلاف تشدد کے خاتمے کے لیے سرمایہ کاری ہے مزید کہا کہ پاکستان میں خواتین کے خلاف تشدد کی بڑی بڑی اقسام ہیں ان میں ایک گھریلو تشدد ہے، ریپ، غیرت کے نام پر قتل، کم عمری کی شادی ، وراثت میں حصہ نہ دینا اور یہ تمام تر اقسام کا تشدد یہاں بہت زیادہ پایا جاتا ہے۔ ہمارے پاس اس تشدد کے خلاف قوانین بھی موجود ہیں جبکہ ان کو روکنے کے لیے سول سوسائٹی اور گورنمنٹ کے ادارے متحرک ہو کر کام کر رہے ہیں لیکن پھر بھی اس کی شدت اور رپورٹ ہونےوالے کیسسز کی تعداد شرمناک ہے
